The Italian Dessert Challenge—Get in Your Request!

Share/Bookmark

You may have noticed that December has been an Italian dessert extravaganza on Pomato Revival so far. I’m dedicating the month to sweets, and just in time for Christmas, I’m taking requests!

Tell me in the comments here what Italian desserts you’d like to see me make. I’m up for anything—cookies, pastries, breads, cakes, whatever. Something your grandmother used to make at Christmas that you’re dying to see again? A goodie you saw in the bakery case that you’re wondering how to make? A recipe you read but are intimidated to try? Lay it on me, friends.

I’ll pick three things from the comments and make them over the next two weeks. If you don’t have the recipe, I will hunt one down, try it until it’s perfect, then share it with you. I’m serious, guys. Anything.

Panettone! It's that bread that comes in a box during Christmas. What is that stuff? I wanna make it!

My friend Franco's wife is known around the holidays for her wonderful ricotta torte! How about that?

Cookies with orange zest and almonds. My nanna always used to make cookies w/ almonds at christmas. They were so good. Wish i could remember what they're called.

    Have you tried zabaglione?

Pizells…Yurch's grandmother used to make them and send him tins in college around Christmas. We would then eat them all in a day. Those and italian sugar cookies with icing with anisette…whoa…good stuff.

Please make those seven-layer rainbow cookies! I'd love to see a picture step-by-step of those. They look so hard to make but soooooo good.

Gelato! Any flavor, though some kind of coffee version would be cool…

How about Biscotti di Latte? I got the recipe from your mom who got it from Maria di Zia Nardina in Sicily over the phone. I tried to make them myself, but something didn't go right. Joe has fond memories of having them at Nonna Rosalia's house, so if you could figure out the right way to make them I would be grateful!

  13. Nik says:

I second gelato. But with holiday flavors like candy cane/peppermint or egg nog.
